Cypress Trees through Cellphone (Van Gogh)

with 2 comments

“Now the olive and the cypress have exactly the significance here as the willow has at home. What I have done is a rather hard and coarse reality beside their abstractions, but it will have a rustic quality, and will smell of the earth. ”
Letter to Theo van Gogh,  November 1889

And one day - long after you’re gone - a man will capture this painting with a small device and another man will make a record of this capture with still another device which translates images into a collection of zeros and ones.

  1. GREAT shot… I love the contrast of a person taking a photo with a cell phone of a painting that was created before phones were ever invented.
