"RAW. I am hard to convince to buy a book considering the overwhelming information base that exists on the web. But I have to say, the Bruce Fraser Adobe Camera Raw book is worth it's weight in gold, especially if processing anything more than a few raw images at a time. If someone wasn't using Adober Raw, it wouldn't be as useful, although there sure are a bunch of tidbits about raw capture, irrespective of the software. I'd loan you mine, but I couldn't bear to part with it :)" - Heath

Yup.  Bought it today.  Just some of the tips on using the browser / workflow are worth every penny.  I'm skimming around in it now - but am becoming a RAW fanatic (is that a wrestling league?).

You see, this is the problem.  I call HP and ask if there is any place in New York City where I could see either the HP 30 or the HP 130 in action - and do a test print and they tell me that in all of New York State there are only two places (both would mean a trip on Metro North at the very least) and one place in New Jersey.  His exact phrase was that looking for these two printers was like looking for a needle in a haystack.  And this is the sales rep. at HP who's job it is to sell these things.

Give me a break.  Give me a big break.  I don't think that even if I rubbed Buddy's nose on the 7960, he could go out and find a larger format HP printer.

So you know what - they might be the greatest thing on earth - but I'm going to cross them off my list.  I'm not living in some cybercave.  I need real things that are around and that people have experience with and that I can see results from before I buy.

I will wait until Photokina (as I've said before) but after that, if no new Epson announcements it's the 2200 (possibly with a RIP) and that's about as far as my thinking goes right now.  I suspect that HP has just divided the sales force from the actual products for some crazy reason.  For all I know, the 130 is the best thing since sliced bread... but it is just too rarified a commodity right now.  (take a breath dave).  Damn.

2:24:18 PM

Well, okay.  The Zone VI stuff might actually be worth something.  I looked at their website and saw some used pieces of the enlarger (same stuff I have) selling for a lot of money (a lot to me anyway).  I've sent them a list of what I have and I'll see if they're interested.  Maybe there are some film diehards out there afterall.
