After a day of printing cards, and with a few darkroom prints to get to, I have come to the conclusion (again) that the darkroom for me is on the way out. I will continue to sell darkroom prints through this year, but by the new year, I am not going to offer them on the site.
The reasons are simple:
a) it should be obvious by now that I'm mostly doing new things digitally, and mostly in color.
b) It is very difficult to do darkroom prints 'on demand.'
c) Results with the 7960 for small black and white prints are every bit as good as darkroom prints and just, if not more, archival.
The new plan, which I almost always fall behind with, is to phase in the digital prints for sale and bring down the amount of darkroom prints for sale (probably just keeping the larger ones and increasing the prices on them). A combination of commerce and art pushes this decision. I wouldn't do it if I weren't completely happy with the artistic value of the prints. There would be no point otherwise. But the logistics of doing large darkroom prints in a tiny apartment also contributes to the decision. I'm back to considering the Epson 2200P as the second printer for doing larger color work.
Please, don't anyone post to photo.net : Beckerman Gives Up Zone VI Enlarger or Beckerman flushes Dektol. I don't want to have to pretend to be thick-skinned again.

I printed the Tumbler shot as a notecard. The red trunks against the blue sky is [ed. see below] striking. [Are trunks plural? I have one pair of trunks? I have two pairs of trunks? And anyway, why are they called trunks at all? Why are all of mens pants plural? Two legs? One pair of shorts? Two pairs of shorts? I have one dress? I have two dresses? Actually, I don't have any dresses, but after all the protests, I may decide to get one dress to fit in.]
T he detail, even as the guy moves through space is equally exciting - you can see a small tattoo on his arm.
