View From 116th Street
On the West Side

A lot of photography gets down to the simple fact of where you place the camera.  When I arrived at this overlook, there were two spots I could have placed the camera.  One without the trees in the foreground.  You could see straight down with no obstruction.  And then there was this spot which seemed less promising.

And then there's the lens choice.  I tend to like compression in this type of shot so I used the 200mm.  I shot from both vantage points, and thought when I was shooting that the shot without the trees would be better, but I did both.

This turned out to be the more interesting shot, because I think it gives a sense of depth, as well as time of year.
