Walked out of the house to go to Starbucks for a snack. Took the camera and it was night, so I stood on the side of a cross-street trying to take shots of people crossing, silhouetted in the headlights. After a few shots, two cops came over and very politely asked what I was doing. Not threatening. Just curious. But more curious than the old days when honestly you didn't even see a cop.
I told them what I was doing.
They asked if they could see the shots on the back of the digital camera.
I showed them. After seeing a few, they tried to paraphrase what I was doing and then one went off and wrote something in his pad. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with me or not. He was probably just writing down what he had for dinner.
But I have taken to carrying around business cards with me as cops always want to know if you are a professional or not.
To cops you usually say yes, you are. To just about anyone else you say, no. It's just a hobby.
Not sure why that works, but it does. One day, you are going to need an ID card to buy a cup of coffee. You know, if you buy enough coffee it can be used as a weapon. I'm not going to tell you how - as it might get me in trouble - but take my word for it - with about 100 cups of hot coffee, I can take over a small town. (Hint, you can't do this with just any coffee. At the very least, the coffee needs to have steamed milk.)
