The MIS UT2 inks should arrive tomorrow. Just for fun, and because I couldn't wait, I did one print on the Epson Premium semi-gloss.  Nice paper. Phew.  The finish is similar to the Colorlife, but the paper is slightly glossier (good) and heavier (good).  I did it using the Colorlife settings (might have been a mistake) and there was a slight green cast to it, but I'm not going to waste paper fooling around with it until I have the new inks.

I called the MIS folks because I hadn't gotten a tracking number from them.  An actual person answered the phone on the order query line.  That is amazing and shocking.  They looked up the order quickly and gave me the tracking number.  Can't ask for more than that.

The quote about the bird was from the preface of "Tales of Power" by Castaneda which I started re-reading last night.  I also got a bunch of the new Bush books (Clarke etc.)  from my father.  He was eager to get rid of them and handed them off to me saying, "Here -- take them.  I can't read anymore."

"Don't get jumpy," Don Juan said calmly.  "There is nothing in this world that a warrior cannot account for.  You see, a warrior considers himself already dead, so there is nothing for him to lose."

Actually -- similar to the Zen idea where you imagine yourself in your own coffin.

Solitary Bird

The conditions of a solitary bird are five:

The first, that it flies to the highest point:
the second, that it does not suffer for company,
not even of its own kind;
the third, that it aims its beak to the skies;
the fourth, that it does not have a definite color;
the fifth, that it sings very softly.

- San Juan de la Cruz, Dichos de Luz y Amor

The photographer is a solitary bird. Sing your song softly.  Let your mystical leanings lean where they will.  Toss your intellectual rational mind to the winds.  You yourself, don't have any shape or color - you are just there to absorb and enhance.  You are a walking unsharp mask.  You may point your lens at the subject but you are really pointing through the subject and back to yourself.  The subject is your mirror.  It reflects your own light back at you.  You exist not in the present, but in the past the present and the future - all at the same time.  Point your beak high and you will find the sky filled with glittering objects from all times.
