At one point in the seventies, I returned to find that 1636 was completely boarded up and abandoned. Later on, faux pictures of windows with flower pots were placed over the real windows as if real honest to God people were still living there. I don't think this fooled anyone, and even in the best of times you couldn't fit a flowerpot on the ledge.

1636 was just another one of those Bronx buildings that was abandoned for a while along with nearly all of the other important buildings and stores from my childhood.
