1636 Stairs

I want to remember Eddie, the kid with polio who was stuck up on the fifth floor of 1636. I would visit him in his dark little room. His mother would close his door and quick as a cat he'd start wrestling with me. And I would let him win. You had to let him win. He was stuck up there for years on the fifth floor. What was it like for a kid on University Avenue to be crippled? Not to be able to vault down the stairs, two, three steps, or half-flights at a time.

Where were the monuments to Eddie?

I offer several Bronx photographs as Note Cards here
